A Date Night Away

Finally! We got a date night away from the kids. It has been a little over 2 years since our first child was born and we have had some time alone to go n a date. The problem? We didn’t really know what to do since it was somewhat last minute and we have only searched for infant/toddler friendly activities for the last 2 years. And what is a date night without shopping for your kids? Well we actually needed to do this before the stores closed so we had quickly ran to a baby store and picked up a mattress for our son. After that we headed out for the Mall of America.

To a lot of people, it is a treat and adventure to go to the Mall of America. There are tons of stores, 2 different food courts with other restaurants scattered throughout the mall and also a Nickelodeon Universe amusement park in the center. However, the Mall of America is just another day for us. We live about 45 minutes away so that is our main plan if we ever want to get out of the house and I drive by it everyday going and coming back from work.

There we window shopped like we always do and trying to see how the mall has changed since we were last there. We did become excited when we realized how easily we were able to navigate stores without having a massive stroller with us and how fast is was to look at everything. What best part about the mall that we got to experience all over again you ask? Why it was the escalator. Yes, the escalator.

(Warning: Rant ahead) We had to go down one floor and instead of waiting for the elevator with many other people who could plainly use the escalator and not clog up the elevators for those who actually have to use it. I mean, come on! The cool mom with like 14 teenage girls, who are fully capable of walking, following her does not need to use the elevator when me and 2 other parents with strollers need to use the elevator to get to another floor! Anyways, we had used the escalator and my wife said she had felt like Buddy the Elf. In fact, we were so excited that we got to use it that we had used to up a flight as well.

After the mall, my wife tasked me to pick where we would have our actual date. I had found a place in St. Paul, MN, that interested me, but I was not sure if it would interest her. The place was called Can Can Wonderland, a place that seemed like it was mini-golf, but for adults. This place somewhat sketchy to go to, but was cool from the moment we stepped inside (See pictures below). There was about an hour wait for the mini-golf when we had arrived, but there was plenty of other things to do in the meantime.

Possibly our favorite thing to do was to either play a vintage bowling game or a vintage basketball game. They were both amazing. The bowling game scored just like regular bowling and had all the noises and clicks that brings back that feeling of nostalgia. It even had a ball return like what they have at bowling alleys on the side of the game. The basketball game confused us at first because there we 15 buttons for each person. Basically, once the ball lands in one of the holes, you push your corresponding button before your opponent, which makes the ball pop out and fly to another hole. We could have sat there and spent many quarters just playing that.

We cannot wait to go back to Can Can Wonderland to go mini-golfing and to possibly catch a performance they have at night. We also cannot wait to see how the Mall of America will evolve in the future.

Leave a comment below on a fun date you had recently.
